Christians & Money: What Does The Bible Say?

Image
There is perhaps a no more hotly debated topic than that of how money relates to Christians and what they should do with it. Many Christians, especially those in the United States fall into two very unhealthy camps. Proponents of the prosperity gospel assert that it is always God’s will for all Christians to have abundant financial resources (Money/riches)…..and this is supposedly for the sake of spreading the gospel. They also assert that poverty in all cases is due to lack of faith in God to provide. Christians in this camp tell those who have little money to rebuke the “spirit of poverty” over their lives and tap into the wealth that God has entitled them to. They claim that no one should question their financial decisions, make any assertions about financial accountability and stewardship or be jealous of their “blessings”. On the other end of the spectrum some Christians believe that any material possession is inherently evil and that “pious” poverty is equated to righteousness. …

"Growing In Godly Affection: Hindrances to Delight In Christ"

More than any other time before, we're living among distractions, enticements and entertainments that are pulling and tugging our affection and devotion away from Christ. Today I'm not simply talking to new Christian converts or people who're just peering into Christianity to see what it's all about, I'm talking to embattled saints who live everyday with the aim of crucifying their flesh, taking up their cross and following Christ. The kingdom of God is not composed of glamorous Gospel superstars, who walk the Gospel Red Carpet and live perfect lives, but is made up of weak people who can only ever accomplish anything by the grace of God at work within them. So it's important that we don't look at ourselves, feign introspection and say "well, that can't be me. I don't have that problem". Maybe we don't use such direct words, but our thoughts, actions and attitudes reflect when we don't want to confront the sin within ourselves. Wee…

"For The Lonely Christian"

"For The Lonely Christian"
No part of this is meant to illicit sympathy but I thought it would be nice to share a small part of my young life in hopes that someone will realize that Jesus understands their loneliness. I grew up as a pretty lonely child. I have three siblings whom I love. We played outside together, fussed at each other, ate together...did everything together. I have cousins who're like sisters to me; we also grew up extremely close. My reasons for growing up lonely never seemed to stem from a lack of people surrounding me; I have a HUGE family, but as I look back I can see that I've always been a pretty different person. I've always had different tastes and interest. I've always loved to do different things. I've always had different opinions and points of view, I've always dressed differently, listened to different types of music.... and the list could go on

When I was in elementary school I was the bucktooth black boy with blue circul…

"Satisfied In Jesus, When The Cross Of Calvary Is Enough"

Throughout the course of history, up until the present day 21st century, we see mankind pursuing a variety of things, ultimately aiming for satisfaction in some area or another. Look  back into the Garden of Eden in Genesis. Adam and Eve had the sweet fellowship and love of their creator. They had the BEST of all provision that anyone could ask for. BUT that didn’t seem to be enough! It’s important to make the distinction here that Adam and Eve were perfect creations, but they were not like God. There is no form of creation, that is as equal to or as high as God, and this truth is what Satan used to disintegrate their all satisfying world. Just as he does to us, Satan placed a pocket of doubt in their relationship with God.

I believe that there was a sort of satisfaction, or at least an extremely rich appeal in the promise that Satan made. He promised Adam and Eve that they’d be just as God knowing good and evil, but A…
